Renfrewshire golf guide
A relaxed two-day Renfrewshire golf plan
Renfrewshire is best treated as a convenient, well-priced add-on rather than a destination in its own right. Its clubs sit close together on the hills west of Glasgow, so two easy days cover the group — ideal around a Glasgow flight or an Ayrshire trip.
Day 1
Kilmacolm and Ranfurly Castle
Start in Bridge of Weir with two James Braid-influenced moorland courses side by side — the natural pairing and the best of Renfrewshire golf.Day 2
East Renfrewshire and Paisley
Add East Renfrewshire’s Braid moorland layout at Newton Mearns and Willie Fernie’s Paisley on the Gleniffer Braes for a second value-packed day near the city.Local judgement
Renfrewshire’s courses worth a round
None of these will headline a first Scotland trip, but together they offer genuine design pedigree and excellent value minutes from Glasgow.

The appeal here is pedigree and price: real James Braid and Willie Fernie designs, a fraction of the coast’s green fees, and all within easy reach of Glasgow Airport.
Kilmacolm and Ranfurly Castle
The two Bridge of Weir clubs sit almost side by side and make the natural heart of a Renfrewshire day. Both are James Braid-influenced moorland courses with the springy turf, gorse and open views that define west-of-Scotland golf away from the coast, and green fees are a fraction of the headline links.
East Renfrewshire
East Renfrewshire at Newton Mearns is another Braid design and a strong third round if you want more than the Bridge of Weir pair. It is heather-lined moorland golf with a real sense of space, yet only a short drive from the southern edge of Glasgow.
Paisley
Paisley is a Willie Fernie course laid out on the Gleniffer Braes, climbing to give fine views back over the city. It is the most urban of the group and the easiest to fit around a Glasgow arrival or departure, and it rounds out Renfrewshire’s value-led appeal.
Where to stay
Where to stay for Renfrewshire golf
Because Renfrewshire is a convenience region, most golfers base themselves near Glasgow Airport or in Bridge of Weir and treat the golf as an add-on.
