7 Day Scotland Golf Itinerary
This is the classic first-timer shape: fly into Edinburgh, settle into links golf in East Lothian and Fife, then decide whether the northern drive to Dornoch belongs in the trip.

Planning notes
Best for groups who want famous names without losing the rhythm of the journey.
Royal Dornoch adds travel time but changes the whole character of the trip.
Use flexible dates if Old Course ballot planning is still open.

Frequently asked questions
Does the St Andrews Old Course require a ballot?
Yes. Apply through the St Andrews Links Trust ballot each autumn for the following season, or book via a licensed specialist operator who holds reserved tee times. Always book a backup course — the ballot is a computer draw with no guarantee.
How far is Royal Dornoch from St Andrews?
Royal Dornoch is approximately 2.5 to 3 hours north of St Andrews by car. Build the final day around the drive — it is worth staying the night in Dornoch rather than treating it as a rushed day trip.
Is 7 days enough for this Scotland golf itinerary?
Yes, if you play one course per day. Groups wanting more time in St Andrews or an extra Fife round should extend to 8 or 9 days.
When is the best time of year for a Scotland golf trip?
May to September gives the best balance of weather, daylight, and course conditions. June offers the longest light — up to 18 hours of daylight in the Highlands. May and September tend to be quieter with excellent course conditions.
